Sibongile’s Story

When did you join SEF?

I joined SEF in 2012 with a first loan of R 500.

The type of business you run?

I ran a small business where I sold perfumes, but it was not enough. On my second loan, I opened a small spaza-shop selling snacks, but still it was not enough. I then decided to unite with other ladies in my community who travel to Maputo and Swaziland to buy new clothes to resell them in order to expand my business. I now sell a great variety of products such as cleaning materials, duvets, comforters, blankets, shoes, perfumes and body lotions.

What is your current loan?

I took a loan of R 7000 and have a savings balance of R 15 700. I recently withdrew R23 000 from my savings in January 2017, which I used to buy a dining room suite and a four (4) -plate stove the previous year in January 2016. I withdrew R 20 000 in order to buy a new bedroom suite and a big 5-door wardrobe.

Why did you join SEF?

SEF presented an opportunity for me when no one wanted to give me a chance. What I love most about SEF is that they offer their clients an opportunity to save. Even though I do not take a very big loan, I can save between R 1 000 and R 1 500 per fortnight. My son just got a driver’s license in March this year through my savings. Now I want to fix the fence around my house, since I have already bought a sliding gate.

Why is your business successful?

In my business I also sell on credit but it is key that one always offers a good customer service.

What are your future goals?

To reach R 30 000 as my savings balance before end of this year.

I have 5 certificates awarded to me by SEF for being the Best Saving Client in Mkhuhlu branch and I would like to continue winning this award.

We congratulate Sibongile and wish her even more success in the years to come!

Like Eunice, many of our clients are skilled entrepreneurs just lacking the capital to get started. A little credit goes a long way towards helping these women reach their full potential.

Are you as passionate as we are about micro-enterprise development? We're always looking to grow our team.
