Hear from our volunteers
Sipho, Volunteer 2015
A lot of opportunities opened up for me through the volunteer programme- I met people in the organisation who mentored me, helping me to understand the organisation and take on more strategic projects. With the support I received from my team and some hard work, I was offered a Research Assistant position, where I currently work on financial education and other innovative projects.
What I have learned at SEF is that whatever task you are given to work on, if you own it there is a greater opportunity for you to grow into something you never imagined.

Bryce, Volunteer 2016
While a volunteer at SEF, I worked on a variety of projects across multiple departments. Three out of my five major projects were ones that I had identified a need for, proposed a plan, and was project lead for. That’s the beauty of volunteering at SEF; if you see a problem you think you can solve management says ‘Ok. Go do it’.
My advice to anyone thinking of working for SEF is to come ready to teach, and to learn in equal measure. There’s a lot volunteers can contribute to the organization using their prior experiences, so don’t be afraid to use them!

Nura, Volunteer 2017
I wake up every morning knowing that the volunteer work I am doing today can make a difference in the lives of thousands of women across South Africa. Volunteering in the R&D department has given me a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the everyday lives of South African women and learn about their culture, customs and every day struggles.
SEF gave me the opportunity to create my own South African experience. I hope to come back one day and witness the impact the projects I’ve worked on have created.
